Bayside Branch
Aims
Bayside Branch aims to foster the study of family history among GSQ members in the Bayside area of Brisbane. We share an interest in seeking, and helping others seek, the histories of our families.
History
The Branch has been operating for 30 years. For the past 25 years the branch had access to a building behind the Wynnum Central State School to store its resources and hold its meetings. However, at the end of the school year 2010, a number of schools in the Bayside have been closed, including Wynnum Central.
The Branch is now situated in a room at the rear of the 'Old Shire Clerk's Cottage', 241 Tingal Road, Wynnum, next door to the Waterloo Bay 50s and Over Centre.
Meetings
Branch meetings will be held in the new premises on the second Friday of February, May, August and November at 9.30am. On other months (March, April, June, July, September and October) Workshop morning teas will be held at members homes. For dates, see the events calendar.
Library
The new rooms will be open to the public for research on Wednesday mornings from 9.00am-11.45am. The Branch has an extensive library and a good selection of resources for all states of Australia, plus the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Members are happy to help all visitors.
Publications
The Branch publishes a quarterly journal called the Broadcaster, which is swapped with other family history societies throughout Queensland and New South Wales.
