The Genealogical Society of Queensland conducts a program of events including classes, seminars, workshops and education sessions each year to provide our members and visitors with a wide variety of information on family history topics.

Our Special Interest Groups also hold meetings. Members of GSQ are welcome to attend.

Family History Tech Interest Group Meeting Dates 2026

The FHTech Interest Group

 

Aims:

  • To assist GSQ members with increasing their knowledge and skills in using technology which can assist with their Genealogical research.
  • Make members comfortable with Genealogical advancements that are happening in the world.

Meetings: Meetings are held on the 2nd Sunday of odd months of the year, unless otherwise advertised. Via ZOOM.


2026: 8th March; 10th May; 12th July; 13th Sept; 8th Nov.

The meeting commences at 10:00 am until 12:00 noon and generally consists of updates which have occurred, anything New; a Presentation and then Discussion on the presentation and problems to be solved.

This group gives opportunities to look at many other technologies that may help you in relation to recording, preserving, and looking at various technology to help you with your family history.

We like to look at and discuss

  • File management and storage
  • Various Software Programs especially ones to use with family history
  • Help in relation to the many Genealogical Website usage.
  • Common Windows/PC or Mac problems.
  • Work together as a group to help others overcome issues and also to swap ideas which can assist others.

If you are not a member of GSQ yet, you can come along for 2 meetings before needing to join. Meetings are always via Zoom.

It was decided that each meeting as short overview of the current major genealogical programs that will run on your computer will be given:

8th March: Family Historian V 7
10th May: Roots Magic V 11
12th July: Legacy V 10
13th Sept: Family Tree Maker 2024
8th Nov: My Heritage Family Tree Builder 

Attendees are asked to contribute a gold coin donation.

How to book an Education Event

If you are a GSQ member you need to Sign In to purchase a ticket.
If you are a QFHS member, an Affiliate or Corporate of GSQ, you must enter the code you have obtained from your secretary into the requested area in order to receive the discount.

 

Payment Types

Credit/Debit Card:
Can be used online, in person at GSQ or via telephone.
Direct Bank Transfer: Offline
Transfer funds to GSQ’s bank account – details are provided at the time of booking.
Cash: Offline
In person at GSQ
By phone: Offline
Telephone GSQ on 07 3349 6072 during opening hours for EFTPOS credit card payment. BUT you must complete the Online Registration form.

(Payment must received at least 2 days from booking the event)

Remember:
For all courses, bookings are essential and must be completed Online.

Also, please note that the GSQ education program is prepared many months in advance. Occasionally, changes need to be made due to circumstances which are out of GSQ’s control.
