DESCRIPTION:The Military Interest Group\nAims: \n\nto provide a specialist forum for members with a particular interest in the history of any of any military event involving Australia\, United Kingdom\, World Wars etc.\nto develop interest in this area\, learn what it meant for our ancestors to be involved or associated with any type of military history\, help with brick walls and grow the GSQ resources.\n\n\nMeetings: Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday Night of odd months of the year unless advised. SUMMARY:Discover land Records in Queensland
DESCRIPTION:Did your ancestor have an agricultural farm\, a pastoral property or a suburban block? What’s the difference between freehold and leasehold lands? What has been indexed\, digitised and online? Why do you still need to visit the Queensland State Archives in person? This session looks at land records held by the Queensland State Archives\, State Library of Queensland\, digitised newspapers and Queensland Government Gazettes. Records explored include land selection files\, suburban and town sales\, estate maps\, rate records\, transmissions by death and more. Personal examples from the speaker’s own family history will be used to show the usefulness of the various records. \n  \nPresenter:\nShauna Hicks OAM \nShauna Hicks has been tracing her own family history since 1977 and worked in government for over 35 years in Australian libraries and archives in Brisbane\, Canberra\, and Melbourne. She has tertiary qualifications from Queensland universities including a Master of Arts in Australian Studies\, a Graduate Diploma in Library Science\, and a Diploma in Family Historical Studies from the Society of Australian Genealogists. She is a Fellow of the Queensland Family History Society; Patron of History Queensland\, and a recipient of the Australian Society of Archivists Distinguished Achievement Award and the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations’ Services to Family History Award. She has written numerous family history guides and is a well-known speaker at conferences\, seminars\, workshops\, and genealogy cruises in Australia and overseas. Shauna is the Director of her own genealogy business at https://www.shaunahicks.com.au and is the author of the blog\, Diary of an Australian Genealogist. DESCRIPTION:The German Interest Group \nAIMS: \n\nto offer support and research assistance to all who are searching for their German Ancestry.\nto encourage and exchange information in an informal setting.\nto provide guest speakers when possible to help guide us through the maze of information available to us.\nto learn the history of Germany and immigration and why our ancestors chose to leave.\nto get to know about German people and their customs.\n\nMeetings: \nMeetings are held on the Last Sunday of odd months of the year\, unless otherwise advertised. The meetings are Hybrid\, meaning held at the GSQ Resource Centre\, 25 Stackpole St\, Wishart as well as via Zoom.
